When Communication Feels Unclear or Unpredictable

You might yourself wandering...

"Are they ignoring me?”

Your child doesn’t respond to their name even when you call them ten times but notices the smallest sounds from across the house.

“Why is everything ‘too much’?”
Everyday experiences like noise, crowds, or clothing can quickly lead to overwhelm or meltdowns that may last a long time

“Is this just a speech delay?”
Your child can recite scripts or phrases from favorite shows or movies but struggles to express their own needs or label common items around the house.

“Why is communication so inconsistent?”
Some days they talk more, other days they seem withdrawn or hard to reach.

“Why don’t they play or interact like other children?”
Back-and-forth interaction, shared attention, or flexible play may feel difficult. They often seem to enjoy playing by themselves

If you’ve been told to “wait and see,” but something doesn’t feel right. You’re not alone. And there is a different way to support your child.

Our Approach

1

Regulation First

Communication begins with regulation.

A child's nervous system MUST feel safe before meaningful interaction can occur. We support:

  • Sensory & emotional regulation based on individual child's sensory profile

  • Offer suggestions for home alternatives

  • Plan sessions where movement and sensory activities are an integral part of the process.

2

Connection over Compliance

We prioritize connection, trust, and shared engagement over compliance based therapy.

Our approach is informed by

  • DIR/Floortime-informed practice

  • Developmental and social-pragmatic approaches

  • Natural Language Acquisition (for Gestalt Language Processors)

  • sensory-informed regulation-based care.

We strongly believe connection is what drives communication not compliance!

3

Strength Based Communication Support

We support all forms of communication including spoken language, gestures, signs, AAC, scripts, and echolalia through play-based activities

Our GLP support includes:

  • Supporting movement from scripts to flexible, self-generated language

  • Modeling language in ways that align with how your child naturally learns

  • Using strengths and special interest as window into your child's life

Beyond Traditional Therapy

This is not compliance-based therapy or one-size-fits-all intervention. We do not focus "sitting at the table", "rehearse responses" or " perform" communication skills.

Instead, we focus on helping children develop authentic, functional communication by first understanding how they experience the world

Our work begins with your child’s:

  • sensory profile

  • regulation needs

  • communication style

  • family and cultural priorties

From there, we build communication through connection, play, and real-life interaction. We honor all kinds of play with and without toys. Progress takes time and we partner with you every step, focusing on meaningful growth, not just outcomes.

Parent Partnership

We believe that caregiver coaching is an essential and central part of our therapeutic approach.

We provide supportive, neurodiversity-affirming coaching inspired by Project IMPACT  strategies and clinical experience to help you:

  • understand your child’s communication style

  • reduce pressure and meltdowns in daily interactions

  • build connection through everyday routines

  • create a more regulated, low-demand home environment

  • Suggestions for school success and collaboration with school-team is also provided on an individual basis.
